Russell Drysdale

Distracted again on the way to von Guérard by this gem of a painting by Russell Drysdale.  The photo taken below is a detail of The rabbiters painted in 1947.  Each part of the painting deserves to be looked at closely.  The classical lighting, the thick white technique, the movement, the mood, the loneliness, the Australianess.  Have a look next time you are at the NGV.
