Yohji Yamamoto

‘Fabric is everything. Often I tell my pattern makers, just listen to the material. What is it going to say? Just wait. Probably the material will teach you something.’

That’s Yohji.

Even though he sees himself as ‘non-denominational, without nationality’ – every fabric Yamamoto uses is specially created and made in Japan.

I love Yamamoto. This is such a spirited, aesthetically perfect image of his work.

We live in an age of fast and predictable fashion. But luckily there is still space for Yamamoto.
