Issey Miyaki

I’ve always been attracted to this sculptural image of Miyaki’s minaret dress. So the postcard has been hanging in my studio for years.

Tradition, imagination and new technologies.

Miyaki is a real leader in the use of technologically advanced textiles and techniques, at the same time using traditional yarns and textiles sourced from ateliers in the Tohoku area of Japan. Sadly the area of the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11.

The 72 year old Miyake has been quiet for a while, focussing on his Tadao Ando designed design museum in Tokyo.

Meanwhile good to see his creative director carrying on the tradition with all these little right angles.
