Albers’ Woven Together

Josef and Anni Albers were together, a couple, living collaboratively.

Although they never worked on a project together.

Just the project of living.

The link between design and art, household object and a painting was normal for them. Design was everywhere. At every waking moment.

An elegant simplicity.

Nothing of Anni’s in this living room. Not even the rug? Gee those squares look good.

Still no sign of Anni in Anni’s room apart from the wonderful Smithosian 1985 catalogue of her work.

The painting is Josef’s “Equal but Unequal” from 1939. I suppose that says it all.
