After publishing his 1921 Book of Fair Women he was considered a bit of an expert on women and was even asked to judge beauty contests in America.
To a Cairns Post journalist he commented… I cannot understand why Australian girls with beautiful bronzed skins should use white powder, pluck their eye-brows, and otherwise endeavour to make themselves standardised.
