Rene Cup Covers for The Australian Women’s Weekly

Not a horse in sight for these Melbourne Cup Women’s Weekly covers.

Haven’t come across the work of Rene Dalgleish before. She was one of only two female illustrators regularly working for the Weekly during World War II.

What’s the red fluffy thing at her neck?

Here’s the perfect recipe for summer chic : Take one good frock – black or your favorite foundation shade. Mix your accessories with artistry. You can then go happily to the Melbourne Cup … or wherever you’re going to-day, lady!

Looks like Dalgleish was with The Weekly for quite some time as twelve years later here are a few more lovelies.

Love these drawings. The grid everywhere. And the gay coloured knot of chiffon at the throat.
